The Power of Perspective
Perspective is everything.
Actually, action is everything but we’ll touch on that later. For now, let’s just say that perspective and taking action split the bill for being everything 50/50.
Perspective is powerful. It’s how you receive the world and how you give it meaning based on what you have available to you at that time.
The great thing about our perspective is that we are largely in control of it.
While we can’t change the facts of an event or happening, we can always choose the meaning that we give to it.
This past Sunday I went for a run and it got me thinking. Running tends to do that. It’s far more meditative than it is physical.
I started wondering, am I really just running, putting one foot in front of the other? Or, am I going on an adventure?
The more I thought about it the more it made sense that I was running but the running was just the means through which I was able to explore my immediate surroundings and environment.
It was through running that I was able to go on an adventure and explore the town I call home. Most days, I wake up in my home which shelters me from my environment. I drive in a car which shelters me from my environment. Then I work in an office that again shelters me from my environment.
It’s really only until I’m out in the open, exposed to the elements that I’m able to explore. It just so happens that this often occurs when I’m running.
Not only am I exploring the environment but I’m also exploring the capabilities and capacities of my body. I don’t really know something until I do something (i.e. taking action, told you I would bring that back around).
It’s fun to ask myself sometimes, what is this body really capable of doing? Hey Ev, what are you made of?
Really, I could just be running…
....but I choose to go on an adventure.
Friends, I’m not asking you to take up running. I’m asking you to explore the world with me. It’s pretty great out there, if you look at it the right way.
