Stuck? There's Only One Thing You Need To Do
In Mathew Kelly's book "Perfectly Yourself" he talks about focusing not on the days, weeks, or months to come but only on the very next thing. The next right thing to be exact.
It does not matter what you're doing, trying to do, trying to overcome, or fighting to complete. Focus only on the next right thing, and then the next right thing, then the next and the next.
If you're like me, the thoughts of the future can either be an uplifting experience or will immediately result in a case of analysis paralysis. It's exciting to think about what the future may hold but what if I'm in a particularly low mood and the future doesn't look so grand?
As Kelly mentions "You cannot think or pray or wish or hope yourself out of the pattern that is holding you back. You must act your way out of it, one moment at a time."
Try as we might, we'll never be able to predict the future. What we can do, and this is a power that resides in each and every one of us, is we can create the future we want both through our thoughts and in our actions (you need both).
Brick by brick, action by action, we have the power to build our future in our image.
...and it all starts, as do all great things, by doing just the next right thing.
Big ups, as always, to Brian Johnson for his Philosopher's Notes hooking up more wisdom in less time.
