Focus On Your Strengths
When we set out on a journey of personal growth and discovery, what we often spend out time doing is focusing on all of the things that we need to fix, change, or improve.
That is, we're spending most of our time focusing on the things we don't necessarily like.
But what we often forget is that there are so many aspects of our lives and who we are that are incredible.
We all have things that we are good at and things we're not so good.
The key is to focus on our strengths first.
Spend some time continuing to refine theses strengths.
From there, now we can start considering what else we might want to improve.
An important consideration is figuring out how we can leverage our strengths to overcome any weaknesses, limitations, or challenges.
I don't do well with confrontation. I'm good at speaking with audiences large and small. Public speaking doesn't bother me much. But the second the exchange starts to heat up, I can almost instantly feel myself withdrawing.
While I'm not very good with confrontation, I am good with deploying massive amounts of empathy. If I can remember that whatever the other person is saying has little to do with me and everything to do with them, I can transition from a defensive state to one of curiosity. This is a much more empowered way of being than withdrawing any time a conversation gets heated or tense.
This applies to other areas of your life that you're working on as well.
Let's say you're not the best with making meal choices when you're stressed and tired (who is!?). But, you're incredible with strategic planning. So instead of focusing on where you're not doing so well, focus on your strengths and then deploy those advantages to help make up for any limitation.
In this instance, you might be best served to do weekly meal planning and prepping and strategizing for contingencies like being tired and stressed. Knowing this, you might prepare an extra meal or two or strategically place a healthy snack in your bag or car, so it's right there if you need it.
I think the point I'm trying to make is that:
we all have challenges in our lives.
Instead of focusing on the challenges, we have an opportunity to focus on the very things within us that can help us surmount any obstacle that may stand in our way.
After all, the obstacle is the way.
